Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas — not the vice president — will visit a Texas migrant facility on Friday.
- The secretary’s plan mirror the types of actions that Republicans and other critics have been asking Harris and President Biden to take since assuming their offices in January.
- Instead, the administration is sending Mayorkas – making at least his fourth border visit — and other officials to the region.
- On Thursday, the vice president held an in-person meeting on voting rights, as election laws at the state level continue to be a contentious issue between the two major parties.
- Mayorkas last visited the border region in April – drawing allegations soon after that he had quickly broken a promise to hold weekly meetings with the region’s sheriffs.
